NEW HARTFORD - Dike-New Hartford High School has been recognized with the Carrie Chapman Catt Award, an honor presented by the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office to schools that achieve voter registration rates of at least 90% among eligible senior students.

ALLISON – Residents at Elm Springs Independent & Assisted Living were anxiously looking ahead to the celebration of the United States’ 250^th anniversary. In honor of the major milestone, residents created a unique American Flag craft, led by Activities Director Judy Otto.

NEW HARTFORD – The New Hartford City Council met in special session June 24 and approved a fiscal year 2025-26 budget amendment following a public hearing. No tax increase is associated with the amendment.

The amendment increases total city revenues by $74,642, bringing the fiscal year total to $883,469. Total expenditures increase by $43,999 to $811,262, resulting in an ending fund balance of $678,462.

DUMONT – Residents throughout the City of Dumont are under a precautionary boil advisory following scheduled water tower inspection and cleaning that temporarily resulted in low water pressure.

APLINGTON – Emergency crews were called to the area of 12^th and Parriott Street in Aplington at approximately 10:30pm yesterday for reports of a structure fire.

BUTLER COUNTY – Beginning Aug. 1, Iowa school districts will have the option to allow eighth-grade students to participate in high school athletics beyond the baseball and softball opportunities already available under current practice. The change comes as part of legislation approved by the Iowa Legislature during the 2026 session.
